I want to send an e-mail letter in answer to a terrific letter written by Richard Cornish SR. in the latest mag.issue. It is practically word for word of a letter I have written several times through the years, reprimanding revisionists for telling the world---We shouldn't have used the A- Bombs. Instead of using snail mail, what is the e- mail address to send my letter,as I have something powerful to add. Thank you,Ed Blum,Sampson Boot in winter of '43

Attended Pearl Harbor ceremony at Hackensack NJ at the USS Ling Museum, along with some Sampson Salts as had been the practice in past years. Had a very interesting tour of the Sub and was very impressed by the way the museum there is being maintained by volunteers much the same as our museum up in Sampson. Groups represented were Pearl Harbor Vets, Tin Can Sailors, Marine Corps League, Army Air Forcew Museum, and of course our Sampson Vets proudly wearing our Sampson hats, and several Veterans Poasts from the area. I urge anyone living in the North Jersey area to take a vist and see that the WW2 Vets are not forgotten in North Jersey. I believe the museum is open weekends all year and probably during the warmer season during the week. I was in Co 552 in 1944.

Had a pretty good summer there in 1944. F-16, upper. Then on to radio school in Indianapolis. Have been to Sampson several times on drives from Las Vegas back to Mass. Grand things have been done there by the organization! A pair of my well-used "boots" and unused hammock are in the brig-museum, and, as of Pearl Harbor Day, a Sampson 1944 cap and some newsletters are in the new, and only, Veterans' Museum in Nevada. In Panama till 1946. Joined the Army Reserve in Toledo (a Harbor Craft company) for a night out with the boys in 1950--just in time to spend 2 years at Ft. Eustis, VA. First visit to this site---won't be the last!

Great web site! Keep it up. Was at Sampson 'Boots' from 8/15/44 until 9/23/44 and then in OGU until somtime in mid October 1944, when I was sent to Bainbridge, MD. NTC to Radio School-- missed out on that famous Lake Seneca winter, but Bainbridge on the Chesapeake was worse!! Spent Christmas eve that year on the mid watch guarding the Dempster Dumpster from potential Nazi garbage stealers! Volunteered for Sumarine Service -- didn't get accepted. Got sent to USNTC Great Lakes, MI to Advanced Radio Tech. School, then in July 1945 to US Naval Radio Sta.'NSS' for duty under instruction. Spent VJ Day on liberty in Washington DC -- incredible!!! Then flown out to Hawaii to Naval Radio Station, 'NPM' Honolulu for rest of my duty. Finally got five days 'sea duty' on an APA being transported back to the States for discharge at Lido Beach, NY. Guess I was one of the lucky ones. Will send in my Company 566 L picture for your files.

I was very pleased to read my last published article on the web site in the Sampson WW-2 Navy Veterans. Although I haven't attented any reunions with my shipmates, Capt. Your shipmate, Domnick J. Pizzola 217 Chestnut Street, Dunmore, PA 18512 P.S. I entered Sampson on December 8th,1944 and graduated from Signal School June 22,1945. Boot Company was 223 D12 upper. My second comment: I went thru Sampson in Feb.1943 I don't remember my company number, but it was in "G"unit, the chief's name was Drexel [nice guy] anyone out there remember him? From Sampson I went thru the machinest mate school in the Great Lakesfrom there to the west coast,on to Brisbane Australia. Sent to New Guinea to pick up the USS Dobbin AD3. spent time on the USS Mizar, USAT Sea Conk, Cleveland, Boise, Phenox, Nashville, and Denver. Before I was discharged I was assigned to the USS Albany CA123. Called back into the Korea war and assigned to the USS C.K.Bronson DD668 That should tell you guys that a boilermaker's rate is not the way to go. you never got any shore duty. All in all it was quite an education. If there is anyone out there who spent time on any of these ships I'd like to hear from you. Charlie chrahn@optonline.net
