Mrs. David f. Wollschlager Saturday, 7/5/03, 4:38 PM

My husband arrived at Sampson Naval Base on April 17, 1943. He was in Company #427, Bks. F-12. I am wondering if you might have a picture of his company when they graduated. After graduation from Boot Camp, he was permanently assigned to Sampson in the Transportation Office until February 4, 1946. Is there anyone out there who might remember him? Friends we had during this time were Frank Cargill, Alan Burnett, Frank Sagona, Frank Macuso, and Josephine(I can't remember her last name) who worked in the office. If anyone has information about any of them I would be glad to hear from them. Do hope to get there sometime to see the museum, too. Thanks for a great site. Although I'm not a WWII Vet I did proudly serve in the Navy for 23 years. I would like to pass on some information to you about your page with "The American Sailor" The words were supposedly written by MUCM Jere Wallace and music was composed by MUCMJeffery Taylor. A more specific reference can be found at http://goatlocker.exis.net/sailor.html This is an excellent and emotional peice of work. The creators deserve all the credit we can give them. Fair winds.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I would first like to say Thank You to all of you who have served in our NAVY and to all of the family members who have kept the memories to share with future generations. My Name is Adam Christopherson I am currently a Boot Camp RDC (Recruit Division Commander) up here at Great Lakes. I have been tasked with researching the history of Bootcamp from the beginning. And eventhough it is a big task, I must say it has also been very rewarding, since I will be able to publish a book and later on website for the base on the history of bootcamp. I believe it will help me better educate my recruits as to what sacrifices and demands were made upon recruits of the past. And also if you have a few good sea stories it helps motivate them as well. If anyone has information on the history of any of the bootcamps on this list, or ones that aren't feel free to contact me, the more information the better. NEWPORT,R.I. NORFOLK,VA YUERBA BUENA IS. Both of my parents passed through NTS Sampson during WWII: my father, Y2 Howard N Carter, attended Stenographers School Dec 1944-Jan 1945 before sailing off to Japan on "his" refitted ship USS Anteus/AS-21 & AG-67 = USNHS Rescue/AH-18. While my father was cruising the Pacific, my mother, CNC Rose Logue, attended OTS for Navy nurses (Apr-Oct 1945). Although she completed the course, none of the cadet nurses in that class were commissioned due to the end of WWII. So, as a civilian, she could freely marry Y1 HN Carter in 1946.

My father's name was Donald Harrison from Syracuse,NY and he passed away recently. He never talked about the war and I've been trying to find out where he was and what he did. I was giving blood recently and when I gave my name to this older gentleman working for the Red Cross, he asked me if my father's name was Donald Harrison. He stated he was in boot camp with my father at Sampson. I never knew Sampson existed. I got on the internet and found all these great web sites. Thank You, Doug Harrison

I arrived at Sampson NTC on 30 May 1945 and assigned to C Unit, Company 156, Barracks 7 Topside. My CC was a Signal Man 1st Class by the name of Vanier (I don't recall his first name), but I do recall that he was a terrific Guy. In addition to our regular training, we received infantry traing by Marines. We were told later that we would be part of an amphibious force that waas going to invade Japan. The A bomb on 6 August 1945 changed all that and the rest is history. It is almost 58 years since my training at Sampson NTC, but I still cherish the memories and all the great Swabies i had the pleasure of serving with. This is a great site and I want to commend all the people who put it together and maintain it.

I've been having a blast checking out Sampson as it is, and as it was. - I checked in at Sampson in February 1945 and was assigned to Company 582 in 'G' Unit, Bks. 19-L. Incidently, does anyone know the whereabouts of Mike Schein? - He was in Sampson around the same time and was a member of the choir in one of the units - I know not which.
