February 5, 1943- NAVY OK THINKS WALTON
LAD, BUT WAITING HARD
Walton - The Navy is a fine service to be in but the waiting, from the time one actually enlists until getting into action, is terrible. That is the opinion of Frederick MacDonald, Walton, who was sworn in Nov. 5, and has been at Sampson Training Base ever since, readying for the big moment when he will actually become a part of Uncle Sam's fighting forces on the water. Next step is just around the corner, however. Seaman MacDonald is spending a seven-day furlough at Walton. Next, he will go to Norfolk, Va, to train as a Gunner's Mate. Like every other American lad who has enlisted, MacDonald believes that he ought to see action a lot sooner than he will. |
